While staying in our hotel 'Zagori', you can explore the
Skamneli village and the surrounding area. In our village, we propose to see:
- The stone square, the stone-made footpaths, the old
plane tree and the taps.
- The stone towers in Palaiokastro
- The church of St. Paraskevi, where is full of murals at the 12th and
13th, the church of St. Nikolaos with the gilded screen, the decor, the
bell tower and the grave of doctor Ioanni Vilara
- The bridge of Kokolia, Astrinos Sagianos (1891) and
the bridge of George Partalis (1808) next to the church of the Virgin
Mary
- The small ravine of 'Bokovo', a unique point of view
where you can enjoy the quietness
- If you are in Skamneli on July 26, see the superb folklore festival,
with traditional dances, etc.
In the widder area of Zagori, we propose to see:
- Vikos gorge one of the most interesting gorges of Europe.
- The Sarakatsani sheepfold. The area is a folkrore exhibition and extent
in 16 acres with huts and storage that shepherds used during spring and summer in the
mountains. Every year on the first Sunday of August at the Sarakatsan settlement, the
gathering of all the Sarakatsans of Epirus for a two-day superb feast takes place. From
the 1995 the huts is a museum and show how was their household. Utensils, objects of
domestic use and authentic tools are included in the waterproof huts.
- Drakolimni (a lake in a very high altittude in the mountains).
- The villages of Laista, Iliohori and the Vrisohori with amazing view in
Tumfi
- Voidomatis river and the sourroundning area.
Activities in the area:
Zagori lets you enjoy the nature through various activities that you can experience
during your stay: Hiking to Drakolimni lake, walk in the
forests, rafting at the crystal clear rivers of the area (Aoos and
Voidomatis rivers), climbing in Timfi mountain, paragliding
from the paragliding base that is located in Asprageli, and many more that you will
discover once you get here...
